Dr. Amber Parker has more than 15 years of experience providing therapy and psychological testing. She has been licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in Virginia since 2010, and she established Cedar Psychological Center in 2016.
Education and Training: Dr. Parker earned her Masters in Forensic Psychology and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Her training included clinical work in a state psychiatric hospital, probation department, and men’s prison. Dr. Parker completed an APA-accredited internship at Broughton Hospital in North Carolina, where she provided therapy and psychological testing in addition to receiving training in neuropsychological assessment. She completed a postdoctoral residency at Central State Hospital in Petersburg, Virginia where she conducted pretrial forensic evaluations and functioned as a treatment team psychologist on the secure forensic unit. Throughout her clinical training and work experience, Dr. Parker has provided individual and group psychotherapy, completed court-ordered evaluations, and conducted comprehensive psychological testing. For two years, Dr. Parker worked as a unit psychologist at Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute. She joined a private group practice in 2012 and started her own private practice in 2016. During the past several years, Dr. Parker has completed a variety of workshops and trainings in the fields of perinatal mental health and mindfulness to develop these additional specialty areas.
Personal: Dr. Parker resides in Northern Virginia with her husband and three children. In her free time, she enjoys running, yoga, hiking, and reading.
Dr. Parker has embraced the role of a lifelong student and is actively involved in ongoing training and workshops in her specialty areas. This allows her to create innovative interventions based on the latest research.
